Medieval Lead Pilgrims Badge, Henry Vl or Cardinal Wolsey
£15.00Price
An incomplete cast lead alloy pilgrim badge dating to the late medieval period (c. AD 1475 - 1530).The front of the badge has moulded decoration depicting a standing figure wearing a large arched hat and holding a bible in its hands at its waist. Surrounding the figure is raised cross hatching with pellet intersections and around the edge of the badge is a pellet border. This badge is interpreted as a pilgrim souvenir, probably originating from the shrine of Henry VI at Windsor, Berkshire (see Egan 2005: 207-208). The figure depicted may be the king himself; another possibility is that it is Cardinal Wolsey, Recorded on PAS C408F7
